UMMC BSN Workforce Enhancement Scholarship

Program Overview

The University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) offers service scholarships to nursing students in the UMMC Accelerated and Traditional BSN programs who wish to become nurses in qualifying positions at UMMC. Note: Students enrolled in the Traditional BSN program are not eligible to apply until their first fall semester.

Application Dates

Applications must be submitted by the following dates for consideration.

  • Summer Semester – May 15 to June 30
  • Fall Semester – August 1 to September 15
  • Spring Semester – January 1 to February 15

Awards are made on a first-come, first-serve basis, as funding is available. Priority is given to eligible renewal Applicants.

Eligibility Requirements

Recipients must meet the following eligibility requirements.

  1. Recipient must be enrolled, or accepted for enrollment, in the UMMC Accelerated or Traditional BSN Program in the School of Nursing at the University of Mississippi Medical Center;
  2. Recipient must apply and receive the UMMC BSN Workforce Enhancement Scholarship; and
  3. Recipient must agree to a service commitment of one-year for each semester that the scholarship award is accepted and received by Recipient. The service commitment begins no later than one hundred twenty (120) days after graduation from the UMMC Accelerated or Traditional BSN program.

Award Amount

The UMMC BSN Workforce Enhancement Scholarship awards tuition and the following fees charged by the institution for participation in the BSN Program.

  • Accelerated BSN Program (SON Professional Fee); or
  • Traditional BSN Program (Standardized Learning Product Fee, Skills Supply Fee, and Sim Lab Fee)

Service Obligations

Recipient must:

  1. Be enrolled, or accepted for enrollment, at UMMC in the Accelerated or Traditional BSN Program;
  2. Apply for and accept the scholarship;
  3. Maintain full-time enrollment in the UMMC Accelerated or Traditional BSN Program;
  4. Maintain satisfactory academic progress while enrolled in the UMMC Accelerated or Traditional BSN Program in accordance with School of Nursing policies;
  5. Seek and obtain employment with UMMC in a full-time qualifying bedside nursing position (qualifying bedside nursing positions will be determined by UMMC health system leadership at the time of application);
  6. Satisfy all UMMC pre-employment qualifications, and maintain one year of full-time employment in a full-time qualifying bedside nursing position at UMMC for each semester that the scholarship award is accepted and received by Recipient;
  7. Complete the ninety (90) day orientation period required for the full-time qualifying bedside nursing position with UMMC prior to the beginning of the commitment period;
  8. Complete at least one year of service in the full-time qualifying bedside nursing position before transferring to a full-time bedside nursing position in another UMMC unit;
  9. Within ten (10) days of completing the ninety (90) day orientation period, and annually thereafter, until the commitment period has been completed, Recipient will provide the Office of Student Financial Services via email to acct-studentsloans@umc.edu with written verification of full-time UMMC employment in a qualifying position; and,
  10. Satisfy all required UMMC pre-employment qualifications and successfully begin employment in a full-time qualifying bedside nursing position no later than one hundred twenty (120) days after graduation from the BSN Program.

Complete the online application. The online application must be completed each and every academic semester for which the Applicant seeks this scholarship.

After the Application

If Recipient meets the eligibility criteria and funding is available, Recipient will receive a link from ECSI through Recipient’s UMMC email, which will route Recipient to the contract for Recipient’s review. If Recipient chooses to accept the award, they must 1) sign the contract in ECSI, and 2) accept the award in Workday. Scholarships will be awarded on a semester by semester basis. Questions about the ECSI links and awards in Workday may be directed to the Office of Financial Aid (601-984-1117).
